Scars and stitches always fade and only strengthen me

So, I went away skiing this weekend with my family, and I ended up hurting my wrist.
I'd love to say that I caught an edge on a double black diamond, or that an icy mogul got the best of me and sent me flying... but really, it wasn't that glamorous. I slipped on some ice on my way to the car Sunday and went straight down on my back and my hand. Yes, it hurt a lot. But I wasn't giving up an entire day of skiing, so I iced it, got it wrapped in an ace, ditched my poles and hit the slopes. It actually got to feeling much better by yesterday morning.

That is until I was trying to brush snow off the bug and as I was walking around to the passenger side, I slipped AGAIN on ice hiding under the centimeter of snow and fell forward onto the hood - bracing myself in an instinctual manner - with my right hand - in it's bandaged state. Ow - with the hurting and the pain.

By the time I got to work (driving one handed is really fun) my wrist was throbbing. So I opened up my ancient all-purpose pill bottle and took what I thought were two ibuprofen. About twenty minutes later I was all kinds of dizzy - so I googled the little letters that had been printed on my pills... oops. Hydrocodone. Prescribed to me almost two years ago when I had the surgery - and weighed about 40 lbs more than I do now. And I took two - which was twice what my dosage had been at the time - so figure that's like taking 3 Vicodin on an empty stomach at work.

Right. 15 minutes later I couldn't hold my head up and I simultaneously wanted to pass out and vomit. (Have I mentioned that I'm fairly sensitive to pain killers & other medications? Seriously... Benadryl can set me on my ass ) On the advice of a family friend who is an RN, I took a little trip to the ER (no i didn't drive) where the nurses were concerned with my low blood pressure and weak pulse, but encouraged by the fact that the pills didn't seem to be making too much of an impact on my respiratory system.

In the meantime - I was feeling absolutely NO pain in my wrist, so to be on the safe side, they x-rayed it. Thankfully, it's not broken. It's supposedly sprained / strained / jammed / etc... so it's wrapped back up in an ace bandage, but should be good as new in a couple days. As for the Vike - I'm pretty sure I could have slept it off without so much ado - but then I would have missed out on the good cookies in the waiting room :)

The Great LiveJournal
Outage of 2005

During the outage I was already stranded in no-internet zone, so although I too was crawling out of my skin for lack of online contact... I honestly didn't know it was down.

What did you do?
