Ashley's "Meme"

So eventually I will have "2004 by the numbers" for you as well as several posts that have been marinating over the last week or so including my Holiday Spectacular, but for now? Enjoy my carefully considered answers to Ashley's MeMe [sidebar: people on LJ tend to use the word meme to mean a personal survey of some kind... when I look it up I find it to mean no such thing (see here) any explanations anyone has for this phenomenon would be appreciated...]


1. What did you do in 2004 that you'd never done before?
I went to California

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't remember making any last year... then again, I don't remember much at all after 3 or 4 am...

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
I wouldn't call us close, but yeah, there was a new cousin added to the brood

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Thankfully, not this year.

5. What countries did you visit?
the US of A

6. What would you like to have in 2005 that you lacked in 2004?
a modicum of self control

7. What date from 2004 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
2/26 - trust me it was a big night for me, possibly my favorite of the year
8/19 - my birthday, because my friends made it so special.
10/09 - Laura's Wedding, because it was beautiful and so much fun

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
surviving?

9. What was your biggest failure?
letting various important facets in my life fall by the wayside

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I was struck down by the plague a couple of times

11. What was the best thing you bought?
The birthday presents I bought for my friends... they were pretty awesome this year.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Ashley for saying she was moving here & then actually doing it.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
No one really appalled me... those who upset me for the most part know who they are and what they did.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Shows, gas, the NYC department of Finance

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Coachella

16. What song will always remind you of 2004?
Franz Ferdinand – Take Me Out

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

i. happier or sadder?
about the same... I don't do the week between Xmas & NYE so well

ii. thinner or fatter?
thinner

iii. richer or poorer?
poorer

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Sleep. Paid tickets immediately.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Drinking, and perhaps a few of the ONS's

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I went upstate with my family to my grandparents' house.

21. Which LJ people did you meet this year?
Eliza, Jelena, Suzanne

22. Did you fall in love in 2004?
everyday.

23. How many one-night stands?
4

24. What was your favorite TV program?
The OC

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I wouldn't say "hate", but yeah.

26. What was the best book you read?
Bitter With Baggage Seeks Same

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
My boys: Surefire, The GoStation, Morning Theft, The Upwelling
Snow Patrol, Benzos, The Killers, The Postal Service, Phoenix

28. What did you want and get?
A Tivo for xmas

29. What did you want and not get?
the right boy

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Garden State (ESotSM was a close second)

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 27. I had a party at the Delancey and ended up feeling more appreciated than I ever have in my entire life.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
a boy, a better job or a book deal

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2004?
preppy-hipster

34. What kept you sane?
writing, my girls

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Jude Law with a side of Matthew McConeghey please and thank you.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
there were political issues this year? Ok, ok, probably the gay marriage debacle. I just don't understand why anyone would want to keep someone else from bieng happy...

37. Who did you miss?
Michelle. Kris.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Matt, Doug, Nora, Jed, Josh

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2004.
Procrastination only makes the bad things worse.

The coolest part about this survey/meme/whatever for me is that if I fast foward in my mind to the end of 2005, I have no idea what our responses will look like. Uncharted territory is the best of all. Here's to another year and more drama-free adventures together! :)
