(Pre-dated the entry. I mean, I should have written it on the First, so let's just pretend I did, okay?)

So, a new look for the new year... well, I'll try it out for a bit, but I don't know if it's going to stick. I've been putting off posting in my slack-induced Haze over the mighty 4 day weekend... mainly because I've been wanting to sum up my year, post the usual lists, that sort of thing... but instead, I think I'll just recount what I can of NYE 03-04.

I got a late start from Westchester & though I originally intended to train in for the festivities, I was afraid I'd miss Midnight if I didn't drive, so I packed up a few things (Lord only knows where I thought I'd actually crash) and head out. There was NO ONE on the road, and I was tempted to really fly down the Maj D, but I took it in stride thanks to the numerous checkpoints I knew were set up out there. Still, I made great time until I hit the 70's on the FDR. We came to a grinding halt. Eventually I would see that one of the more horrific accidents I'd seen that year was choking the highway down to one lane, but not before I spent that magic midnight moment honking my horn in unison with my fellow FDR revelers. Once I got past the grotesquely positioned BMW, I zipped straight down to fatherfucker The evening's "pre-party" hosted by Greg & promoted? by Audrey.

Greg's place was packed, (much to my relief... I was afraid it might have already been abandoned for the evening) I ran into the host extraordinaire in the hallway having a crisis regarding some writing on the wall, then quickly found Audrey, Jasper, Laura, Dennis, & Sarah. Everyone looked smashing... everyone looked smashed (or nearly there). I started playing catch up with the drinks, Laura re-enacted the countdown for me, I discovered that one of my friends has been not-so-stealthily dating my favorite rockstar, I was re-introduced to the lovely Miss Jenny Penny, and my bff (for the next 2 hours) Rene. I called Boy2 somewhere around 1:30 or so, but it was an utterly pointless phone call - he seemed to keep talking to me, but I couldn't hear a single word he said... this might have prompted me to go outside or downstairs or anyplace that might be a smidge quieter, but achieving that conclusion required a thought process beyond my capabilities at the time. At some point I A) kissed a boy at the urging of his girlfriend and then 2) partook of an illicit substance I'd sworn to never try (perhaps not in that order?) I also found time to confess to Sarah that I'd made out with her brother last month... She found this greatly amusing, but Oy, there are a whole-lotta reasons I prolly shouldn't have mentioned that.

So ANYhow, somewhere around 2:15ish I found myself in a cab en-route to TrashNYC's New Year's Bash at Don Hill's with Jasper, Sarah & Laura. Sarah whisked us past the waiting line as member of her "entourage" (Jasper = photographer, Me= carrying cds, Laura = Geisha) Laura & I checked out coats & I sashayed upto the bar only to find that my lovely $100 was NOT in my bag. I bumped into all kinds of people as I attempted to scan the floor, sure that I had dropped it while opening my unwieldy clutch bag, but to no avail. At that moment there wasn't much to be done... I headed out in search of an ATM, and returned in time to grab yet another Vodka Tonic & make my way up onto the stage to dance with Laura & …Boy D. So, yes, there was much dancing, making out & groping through out the evening with Boy D, because apparently, this is what we do now… if at least one of us is sauced, we're all about the tongue bath. (just like to point out that I'm not complaining in the least – really. not. complaining.)
Somewhere around 3:15 – 3:30, Laura, Jo & Jasper leave for 2A. Upon unchecking Laura's coat from our joint hanger, I discover my $100 safe in my coat pocket, Whooppee!!

The rest of my time at Don Hills is increasingly confusing… I spend a good deal of it searching for Audrey or Sarah (I couldn't find her behind the dj booth to save my life) & the in between time is largely occupied by sucking face with a random boy who seemed to be following me around the bar. Here's a fairly good representation of our interactions: I'm sitting behind the curtain squinting at my phone & trying to text Audrey, he appears next to me & starts slobbering my ear, He Says: I'd really like to take you home with me. I Say: I really need to fin my friend. I exit, stage right. Rinse, Lather, Repeat... he keeps popping up all over the place. At one point Boy D rescues me by valiantly making out with me in front of him. Ha.

Audrey, Dennis & I roll out around 4 am to meet up with the peeps at 2A. Seeing Laura is like a thwack! over the head… I left my coat across town @ Don Hills. Dammmmmit! I try calling Boy D to see if he can get it for me, but I realized mid voice mail that I have the check ticket & that I may not see him again for quite some time. It doesn't much matter, a little bit later he texts me that he's leaving Don Hills. I'm regrouping, but still reveling… offer Jo a ride home, but then take off on my own about an hour or so later to get my coat.

This is where things get fuzzy… I got the coat. I'm pretty sure I got in another cab & went back to my car over by Greg's, but I don't remember the ride, nor do I recall driving home at ALL. Basically, after leaving Don Hill's the next thing I remember is getting into my bed. And from there, waking up around 5 pm New Year's Day… ouch. Now, I certainly had a truly amazing time, but in retrospect, I really over did it - Hangovers hurt, but I honestly scared the shit out of myself with the blackout… this was only the third solid one I've ever had, but it was the longest & it encompassed a 30-minute drive. Needless to say, I won't be driving myself on New Year's ever again.

Re: Happy New Year :)
IP address, Schm-IP address. What will they think of next? Surgically implanted decoder chips? Well shit, I give up. Where is my elctro-shock invisible fence dog-collar? Yes, it was nice, thanks. Low-key, thankfully.
