Bowling for - hell, I don't bowl.

So................

I could waste a lot of everyone's time by attempting to sum-up the last couple of months & all the wonderful & not so wonderful things that have come to pass, but I'm not in the mood for explaining today.

Instead, I'll wax a bit on a film I've seen twice recently, "Bowling for Columbine". First off, go see this movie. In fact, stop reading this immediately, leave your home or office & get tickets - this will still be here when you get back & I guarantee it's not half as entertaining as the movie ;)

Okay, so you've seen the movie... It's really quite provocative with it's notion of a nation of fear - and that fear is something I've tried to take a closer look at over the last week or so. Not that I'm conducting socio-psychological tests or anything... just that I've been noticing all of the the tiny fears that we (or at least I) face on a regular basis. And there are a LOT of them. And for the most part I was very "anti - fear" especially after I realized that most fears were either unfounded or merely a byproduct of hype...

But recently, I may have changed my tune. In order to live without fear, one requires a certain amount of faith, no? Trust in your fellow man? Trust in the other drivers on the road, trust in the companies that you buy from, trust in your government & it's processes...

Generally I am a reasonably trusting person - I trust other drivers to avoid my car, I trust my elected officials to (generally) do what's right for myself, my community, the country, etc... But there are deeper faiths out there - in God, in Family, in Friends... and when those beliefs are shaken, how do you stop the domino effect from compromising your entire world? If you find the main things in your life that you believe in are not what they seem, than how can you believe in anything at all? ie; How can you trust a stranger on the street, if you can't trust the people closest to your heart?

"It's a mixed up, muddled up, shook up world, except for Lola"
Unless of course Lola is no exception...

Good God, what is the world coming to when you can't even rely on the good wisdom of the Kinks?!?!?
